Sophomore southpaw registers career-high 12
strikeouts
Standish, Maine- Sophomore Greg Kimball tossed a complete game
five-hit shutout and registered a career-high 12 strikeouts to lead
Saint Joseph's College (13-14) to a 3-0 victory over visiting Bates
College (6-10) Wednesday evening at Larry Mahaney Diamond in the
first game of the doubleheader.
Kimball (4-2) pitched all seven innings for the second time this
year and limited the Bobcats offense to only five hits, all
singles. The left-hander issued one walk while striking out a
season high 12 batters, and only allowed one Bobcat player to reach
third base.
Bates starter Ben Gwozdzy (0-3) took the loss despite a solid
effort. In six innings of work, Gwozdzy allowed three runs, one
earned, on seven hits while striking out two batters.
Saint Joseph's College took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the
fourth inning when Jesse LaCasse led off the frame with his team
leading 8th homerun of the year to the left field.
The Monks expanded the lead to 3-0 in the fifth inning. Tyler
Bryant singled and scored on Andy Exley's Sacrifice fly to
deep right field before Justin Lambert came home safely on a wild
pitch.
