Farmington, ME - Maine-Farmington outscored St. Joe's 34-24 in
the second half to secure a 61-55 win over the Monks last night.
The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for St. Joe's (5-3)
and UMF improves to 4-3 overall.
The first half included five ties, but the Monks held the lead
for most of the half going into the break up 32-27. St. Joe's would
lead by as much as nine in the second half as a lay-up by senior
Colby Emmons (Portland, ME) made it 40-31 at
14:55.
Farmington responded with a 13-0 run over the next four minutes
to take a 44-40 lead but back-to-back baskets by senior
Marcus Alexander (Niceville, FL) and sophomore
Elbie Murphy (Loudonville, NY) put the Monks
ahead. Farmington reclaimed the lead, using a 7-1 run over the next
five minutes to build a six-point lead with 3:02 to play.
The Monks pulled to within two on a three-pointer by Murphy with
16 seconds to go, but Farmington converted four free throws in the
final 14 seconds to secure the win.
Murphy led St. Joe's with a game-high 18 points and GR
Chad Pulkkinen (Windham, ME) had 10 points.
The squad returns to action on Friday, December 29th at 7 PM,
taking on Husson College in the The Maine Event hosted by SJC.
Southern Maine plays Colby College in the 5 PM game.
