Monks Take 3 of 4 on NAC Road Trip

Worcester, MA/Holyoke, MA - The Saint Joseph's College baseball team swept Becker College in Worcester, Mass., on Saturday, then split a doubleheader with Elms College on Sunday to move to 7-1 in NAC play.

Senior ace Sam Tupper (Yarmouth, ME) threw 6 solid innings to beat the Becker College Hawks in game one. Tupper allowed six hits and struck out five to move his personal record to 6-0. Cole Filosa (Milford, MA) closed out the 6-1 victory with a scoreless seventh inning. Wade Oliver (Owl's Head, ME) posted a 2-4 game, including an RBI. Junior shortstop Luke Enman (Milan, NH) and third baseman Mark Clapp (Blue Hill, ME) each went 2-3. First baseman Ben Grant-Roy (Biddeford, ME) drove in 3 runs in a 1-3 effort.

In game two against Becker, the Monks used an 11-hit attack to beat the Hawks 9-3. Andy Pooler (Southwest Harbor, ME) tossed 4.2 innings of shutout relief to earn the win. Pooler replaced Andrew Keirstead (Westbrook, ME) and improved his record to 2-0. Oliver was 2-4 with 2 RBI in the nightcap and senior Keil Martin (Saco, ME) contributed a 3-5, 2 RBI contest.

On Sunday, the Monks traveled to Holyoke, Mass. to take on Elms College at MacKenzie Stadium. The Monks earned a split after taking game one 6-2, and dropping the finale 10-8.

In game one, senior lefty Ben Cutter (Westbrook, ME) moved his mark to 5-0. Cutter went the distance allowing 2 runs on 5 hits, he walked 1 and struck out 6 Blazers. Oliver went 3-4 and scored a run out of his leadoff spot. Mark Clapp posted two RBI's.

The Blazers took the nightcap by a count of 10-8. Despite out-hitting Elms 13-9, the Royal Blue was unable to protect an early 8-4 lead. Junior Ryan Boucher (Manchester, NH) suffered the loss on the mound. The Monks were lead offensively by Luke Enman and Mike Burdin (Gardiner, ME) who each went 3-4 in the loss.

The Monks now stand at 23-5 overall, and 7-1 in North Atlantic Conference play.

Saint Joseph's will play Host to Bowdoin College on Monday. The non-conference tilt is set to begin at 3:30 p.m. at beautiful Larry Mahaney Diamond on the campus of Saint Joseph's College.
