Box Score NORTHFIELD, VT – Saint Joseph's (6-6-1, 4-5-1 GNAC)
fell to Norwich University (10-5, 7-3 GNAC), 1-0, in a Great
Northeast Athletic Conference Women's Soccer match on
Saturday afternoon. Monks goalkeeper Jaci Lorenzen '14
(Windham, ME) made five saves in a losing effort.
Cadets forward Brittany Casey '13 (Pointe-Claire, Quebec)
scored what turned out to be the game-clincher in the 37th minute
off an indirect kick. From 35 yards out, the sophomore lofted a
ball beyond Lorenzen's reach to account for the game's
only tally and her GNAC-leading 20th goal of the year.
With the 1-0 deficit, the Monks poured on the pressure in the
second half with 10 shots, seven on target, in the second stanza,
but Norwich netminder Nicki Hunsicker '11 (Emmaus, PA) was up
to the task on each occasion and capped the game with nine
stops.
Saint Joseph's had several opportunities late in the game,
as Jessica Capozzi '14 (Saugus, MA) and Casey Monaghan
'13 (Portland, ME/Portland) both steered shots on net in the
final five minutes, but both attempts were turned away.
Katherine Chambers '13 (Hampden, ME) posted four shots on
goal for the Monks, while Casey had three attempts on target for
the Cadets.
The Cadets held advantages in shots (18-15) and corner kicks
(7-2), while the Monks registered a 9-6 edge in shots on goal in
the loss. St. Joe's and Norwich have now played to a 2-2-1
tilt in the history of the series.
Saint Joseph's will play at Bates College in a non-league
match on Tuesday, October 19th at 3:30 PM, while Norwich will face
off against Mount Ida College on Wednesday at 3:30 PM.
