Box Score STANDISH, ME – Emmanuel College (3-6, 1-4 GNAC) defeated
Saint Joseph's (5-2, 3-2 GNAC), 3-2, in a GNAC Women's
Soccer contest at Westerlea Way Field on Saturday afternoon.
The conference match opened with over 30 minutes of scoreless
play, but the teams combined for three goals over a five-minute
span midway through the first half with Emmanuel taking a 2-1
cushion into intermission.
Cassie Diplock '14 (Augusta, ME) provided the Monks with a
1-0 lead off an Elizabeth Theberge '11 (Danvers, MA) corner
kick at the 30:21 mark, but Saints midfielder Brittany Ridge
'13 (Portland, ME) knotted the game just 46 seconds later off
a Kristen Baker '14 (Portland, ME) feed.
Monks forward Mikayla Call '11 (Portland, ME/McAuley)
kicked off the second-half scoring and tied the game at two apiece
with a 63rd-minute marker off a Katherine Chambers '13
(Hampden, ME) pass.
The tie stood for over 23 minutes of play and appeared headed
for extras, but the visitors received a goal from Darcey Sullivan
'14 (Dalton, MA) at the 85:54 mark to gain the victory.
The Monks had opportunities to tie to the match in the closing
minutes, but the Saints were up to the task. Lauren Chouinard
'14 (Gorham, ME) was denied by Emmanuel keeper Beatrix
Hassler '14 (Jericho, VT) at the 89:08 mark and the Royal
Blue were unable to muster a shot on a corner kick taken with 40
seconds remaining.
Hassler made eight saves between the pipes for Emmanuel while
SJC keeper Jaci Lorenzen '14 (Windham, ME) notched seven
stops in the losing effort.
With a goal at the 62:23 mark, Call became just the third player
in program history to reach the 100-point plateau in their career.
Now at 101 points – with 39 goals and 23 assists in 65 games,
Call joins Kathy Britton '92 (115 points) and Cindy Kamszik
'96 (106) in the Monks' "Century Club." She
is currently tied for third all-time in goals and assists in SJC
program history.
With the loss, St. Joe's falls to 2-4 against Emmanuel in
the history of the matchup between the conference rivals.
St. Joe's will host GNAC rival Mount Ida College on
Tuesday at 4:00 PM, while Emmanuel resumes play at Fitchburg State
in a non-conference match on Wednesday at 4:00 PM.
