Box Score

PORTLAND, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (13-1, 8-0 GNAC) edged Regis College (7-5, 4-0 NECC), 8-6, in a non-conference women's lacrosse contest at Deering Memorial Stadium on Wednesday evening. Junior attack Kat Gadbois (Scarborough, Maine) netted three goals to help the Monks lengthen their program-record winning streak to 13 games. The Monks' current win total is also a new program record, topping the 12-victory mark set last spring.

Saint Joseph's scored three straight goals to open the game, including an Elyse Caiazzo (Scarborough, Maine/Cheverus) just 43 seconds into play, and held a 6-2 advantage heading into intermission, but Regis kicked off the second half with three unanswered markers and trailed by one, 7-6, after senior attack Grace Politis (Billerica, Mass.) netted her third goal of the night with 3:34 left. The Pride won the ensuing draw control and headed downfield, but sophomore Kelsey Dumond (Lewiston, Maine) forced a turnover and the Monks maintained possession until Gadbois potted an unassisted goal, providing the hosts with some breathing room with 1:45 remaining.

Regis junior goalie Emma Decker (Southborough, Mass.) was outstanding in the cage, making 10 stops in the losing effort. Saint Joseph's junior keeper Michelle Cunha (Enfield, Conn.) also played well, making seven saves in her first start since March 31st.

For the Monks, Caiazzo scored three goals with three ground balls and three caused turnovers, sophomore midfielder Jackie Wilson (Tiverton, R.I.) added a goal and an assist with a pair of draw controls, junior Elizabeth Elcock (Westwood, Mass.) contributed a goal with a team-high five ground balls, and senior midfielder Lizzie Calnan (Westport, Mass.) chipped in with four caused turnovers in the victory.

For the Pride, Politis tallied three goals and three draw controls while Sashae Walls (Everett, Mass.), Sam Salamone (Milford, Mass.) and Nicole Roche (Waltham, Mass.) netted a goal apiece and Sierra Luce (Hartford, Vt.) dealt an assist in the losing bid. Senior midfielder Teresa Busiek (Arlington, Mass.) picked up a team-high four ground balls on the evening.

In one of the Monks' most competitive games this season, the Royal Blue held slight advantages in shots (22-19), ground balls (25-22) and draw controls (10-6) and connected on four of seven free-position attempts in the triumph.

With the victory, Saint Joseph's improves to 4-0 all-time versus Regis College, a team the Monks defeated by a 12-11 margin in three overtimes last spring.

Both programs return to action with conference games this Saturday, when Saint Joseph's plays at Simmons College at 12:00 PM and Regis hosts Mitchell College at 1:00 PM.
