Strong Second Stanza Lifts Wildcats Past Monks, 82-52

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Johnson & Wales University (10-9, 10-3 GNAC) toppled Saint Joseph's College (11-10, 8-6 GNAC), 82-52, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's basketball contest on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Johnson & Wales held a 28-25 edge heading into intermission, but the hosts posted a scorching 63.6% (21-33) shooting percentage – including a 50% (5-10) mark from downtown – in the second half en route to doubling up the Monks (54-27) in the latter frame.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Junior forward Quinn Richardson-Newton (Saco, Maine) netted 12 points with three rebounds
  • Senior guard Andrew Ruffen (Salem, N.H.) added 10 points off the bench
  • Junior forward Aaron Hall (Haverhill, Mass.) chipped in with eight points and three boards
  • Sophomore guard Ian Mileikis (Auburn, Maine) contributed seven points, six caroms, and four assists

LEADERS – JOHNSON & WALES:

  • Anthony Jernigan tallied 29 points, seven rebounds, five steals, and two assists and was 10-19 from the floor, 2-4 from three-point land, and 7-8 from the FT line
  • Edson Dascy contributed 17 points with five rebounds, three steals, and a pair of blocked shots
  • Israel Johnson came off the bench to score 10 points in 19 minutes

NEXT!

Both teams are back in conference action Tuesday, when Saint Joseph's hosts Rivier University and Johnson & Wales hosts Anna Maria College. Both contests are slated to begin at 7:00 PM.
