Box Score WESTON, Mass. – Saint Joseph's College (3-2, 1-0 GNAC) edged Regis College (6-1, 1-0 NECC), 8-7 in triple-overtime, in a non-conference women's lacrosse contest on Wednesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
After 60 minutes of regulation and two six-minute 'sudden victory' overtime frames failed to produce a winner, the Monks and Pride headed into a third extra period, when senior midfielder Jackie Wilson (Tiverton, R.I.) scored off a Kayla Kelly (York, Maine) assist at the 4:05 mark to lift her team to a thrilling and hard-fought victory.
The Monks defeated their future conference rival (Regis will join the Great Northeast Athletic Conference next fall) despite being outshot by a 34-16 margin and clearing their end successfully on just nine of 23 attempts.
THE KEEPERS:
Saint Joseph's freshman Kaylin Mansir (West Gardiner, Maine) was outstanding in the victory and made 12 saves with five stops on free-position attempts, including one with 15 seconds left in regulation and another at the 5:34 mark of the third overtime period.
Regis netminder Maresa Malcolm posted seven saves in 73:55 minutes between the pipes.
LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:
- Junior midfielder Elyse Caiazzo (Scarborough, Maine/Cheverus) tallied five goals and an assist with five ground balls and four draw controls
- Wilson scored two goals with two assists and contributed four ground balls, six draw controls, and three caused turnovers
- Sophomore Kara Kelly (York, Maine) notched a goal and an assist
LEADERS – REGIS:
- Mackenzie Cattaruzza scored two goals with a pair of caused turnovers
- Kerri Anselmo netted two markers with two ground balls and two caused turnovers
- Rachel Baldrate posted three ground balls and four caused turnovers
- Linsay Bumila chipped in with three ground balls, two draw controls, and three caused turnovers
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
With the victory, Saint Joseph's remains undefeated (6-0) in the history of the series with Regis College. The Monks defeated the Pride by an 8-1 margin in Portland last spring. Tonight's contest actually marks the second time these two programs required three overtimes to declare a winner, as St. Joe's tipped Regis by a 12-11 score in 3OT in Weston on April 3rd, 2014.

Both teams resume play versus conference opponents on Saturday, when Saint Joseph's hosts GNAC-rival University of Saint Joseph (CT) at Deering Memorial Stadium in a 1:00 PM start and Regis travels to Elms College for an NECC contest slated to begin at 12:00 PM.
