Monks Blank Cadets, 2-0

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (4-3-0, 2-2-0 GNAC) blanked Norwich University (1-5-0, 1-3-0 GNAC), 2-0, at the SJC Athletics Complex on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks netted what proved to be the game-winner at the two-minute mark, when junior Colleen Sheehan (Medway, Mass.) delivered a pass to freshman Kenzie Murphy (West Baldwin, Maine), who was streaking down the right side and launched a shot to the far post.

Senior Sarah Comtois (Lowell, Mass.) capped the game scoring early in the second stanza, when she unleashed a left-footed shot, from nearly 40 yards out, to the upper left corner of the net at the 46:35 mark.

THE KEEPERS:

Saint Joseph's senior Brooke Troup (East Bridgewater, Mass.) was untested in what was her third shutout of the season while her counterpart, Norwich freshman Katie Bishop-Manning (New York, N.Y.), registered 10 stops in a losing effort.

Monks senior defender Emily DeLuca (Gorham, Maine) also posted a defensive save in the 80th minute.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held considerable advantages in shots (27-3), shots on goal (14-1), and corner kicks (9-0) in the victory.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the win, Saint Joseph's improves to 7-2-3 in the history of the series with Norwich University. The Monks have not suffered a setback at the hands of the Cadets since October 16th, 2010 with a 5-0-2 record versus their conference foe since that date.
