Saint Joseph's Batters Bowdoin, 14-4

Box Score

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (16-5) defeated Bowdoin College (9-10), 14-4, in a non-conference baseball game at Larry Mahaney Diamond on Monday afternoon. The victory extends the Monks' winning streak to 13 games, the team's longest win string since St. Joe's won 13 straight in 2006.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Saint Joseph's jumped out to a 4-0 lead off two hits and a pair of Bowdoin errors in the bottom of the first, when sophomore Ben Gravel (Rochester, N.H.) knocked in two runs with a single up the middle and senior catcher Jacob White (Salem, N.H.) and sophomore third baseman Will Martin (Arlington, Mass.) scored on a throwing error.

The Polar Bears responded with two runs off three hits in the top of the second, but left the bases loaded as SJC sophomore starter Matt Demma (Worcester, Mass.) induced an inning-ending ground out to escape further damage.

The Monks extended their lead to 7-2 in the third, when junior left fielder Jared Gagne (Dover, N.H.) plated three runs with a bases-loaded double with two out. In the bottom of the fourth, Martin roped a two-run double while junior first baseman Noah McDaniel (Eliot, Maine) and freshman second baseman Luke Johnson (East Hampton, Conn.) registered run-scoring singles to make it an 11-2 game.

St. Joe's tacked on three runs off four hits in the fifth frame, when McDaniel worked a bases-loaded walk and Johnson knocked in a pair with a single to center field.

Bowdoin added single runs in the seventh and eighth innings, as freshman Matt Nakamoto (Honolulu, Hawaii) notched an RBI single in the former and freshman Jack Bliss (Chelmsford, Mass.) posted a run-scoring base hit in the latter to account for the 14-4 final.
