STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (8-8-1, 8-3-1 GNAC) held off Regis College (9-5-2, 8-3-1 GNAC), 2-1, in a hard fought Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer contest at the SJC Athletics Complex on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Saint Joseph's grabbed a 1-0 lead at the 17:32 mark when junior Aaliyah Wilson-Falcone (Winthrop, Maine) netted her ninth goal of the season off a Madison Michaud (Presque Isle, Maine) feed. The 1-0 edge remained until the 67th minute, when Sama Colatruglio (Mahopac, N.Y.) threaded a perfect long pass forward to Michaud, who finished with her 10th tally of the year.

The Pride poured on the offensive pressure during the remainder of play and the efforts paid off when senior Aria Ulmer (Henniker, N.H.) potted her fourth marker of the season off a Tia Zanardi (Haverhill, Mass.) pass.

Regis had several opportunities to knot the game, but SJC junior keeper Carly Downey (Yarmouth, Maine) turned away a shot in the 89th minute as the Monks closed out the game with possession of the ball to preserve the victory.

SENIOR MOMENT:

Prior to the start of the contest the Monks held a brief ceremony to honor the women's soccer program's five seniors: Sama Colatruglio (Mahopac, N.Y.), Samantha Magill (Glocester, R.I.), Madison Michaud (Presque Isle, Maine), Nikki Sheehan (Medway, Mass.), and Keelin Sweeney (Hollis, Maine). This group has helped Saint Joseph's post a 34-20-4 (.586) record with a 28-8-2 (.737) mark in conference play during their time on the pitch.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held the advantage in shots (23-11) and shots on goal (9-6) while both sides were awarded three corner kicks on the afternoon.

THE KEEPERS:

Downey made five saves for the Monks while Regis freshman netminder Daniela Mazo (Bridgeport, Conn.) posted six stops in a losing effort.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With today's victory, Saint Joseph's improves to 4-0-1 all-time versus Regis College.
