Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (14-10, 7-1 GNAC) swept a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) baseball doubleheader versus Albertus Magnus College (2-16, 2-6 GNAC) at Larry Mahaney Diamond on Sunday afternoon. The Monks defeated the Falcons by a 3-1 score in the opener and completed the sweep with a 10-0 triumph in the nightcap.

GAME ONE:

The Monks opened the scoring ledger with a run on three hits in the bottom of the third inning, when senior center fielder Ryan Tessier (Concord, N.H.) reached on a fielder's choice and crossed the plate three batters later when grad student Ben Gravel (Rochester, N.H.) roped a two-out base hit.

The Falcons scored what proved to be their only run of the day in the top of the fifth when freshman Yandy James (Paterson, N.J.) reached on an error and was sent home with a two-out single off the bat of Anthony Broadhurst (Stratford, Conn.).

St. Joe's reclaimed the lead with two runs on three hits in the bottom of the fifth. With runners on second and third and two out, junior catcher Jonathan Dube (Rochester, N.H.) notched a two-run single to left field to cap the contest scoring and give the hosts the game-one triumph.

ON THE MOUND:

  • SJC junior starter Samuel Jalbert (Mascouche, Que.) improved to 2-2 on the season after allowing an unearned run on three hits and a walk with eight strikeouts over six dominant innings; sophomore Luke Stephens (Glastonbury, Conn.) earned his third save of the season with two strikeouts in a scoreless inning of relief
  • Albertus Magnus sophomore starter Tyler Baldwin (Cromwell, Conn.) falls to 1-4 after allowing three runs on nine hits with one strikeout over six frames

OFF THE BAT:

  • Grad student Drew Healey (Rochester, N.H.) was 2-for-3 with a run, a double and a stolen base
  • Senior third baseman Ronan Chisholm (North Chatham, Mass.) went 2-for-3 with a run scored

GAME TWO:

The Monks put game two away early as the hosts scored five runs on four hits and an Albertus error in the bottom of the first. Gravel and junior catcher Jackson Stanton (Saugus, Mass.) delivered RBI singles, Chisholm crossed the plate on a wild pitch, and Matt Thibeault (Nashua, N.H.) and Dawson Gundlah (York, Maine) raced home on first-and-third double steal plays to account for the five runs.

Saint Joseph's tacked on three runs in the fifth when Gravel, Stanton, and junior shortstop Zach Miles (Concord, N.H.) were credited with an RBI apiece. The Monks closed out the scoring in the bottom of the sixth when seniors Tyler Currier (Bourne, Mass.) and Jake Laplume (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) produced RBI singles for their first collegiate hits.

ON THE MOUND:

  • SJC freshman starter Jason Johnson (Thomaston, Conn.) allowed just two hits and two walks while fanning seven Albertus Magnus hitters over six shutout frames and senior Devan Harrison (Pocasset, Mass.) preserved the goose-egg effort with a strikeout in an inning of relief
  • The Falcons employed six different pitchers in the setback with starter Matthew Silverstein (Shelton, Conn.) taking the loss after giving up five runs on four hits and two walks in 2/3 of an inning; senior Michael Pepe (Cheshire, Conn.) tossed 2.1 innings of one-hit relief for the visitors

OFF THE BAT:

  • Gravel was 2-for-3 with a run and two RBI
  • Gundlah went 2-for-2 with a run and a stolen base
  • Thibault was 1-for-2 with two runs and Stanton went 1-for-3 with two RBI
