Monks Defeat Pride, Improve to 13-0

WESTON, Mass. – Grad student Lydia Dexter (Oakland, Maine) scored four goals and dealt six assists to help lift Saint Joseph's College (13-0, 9-0 GNAC) topple Regis College (2-11, 2-8 GNAC), 19-4, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's lacrosse action on Thursday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks scored six unanswered goals in the opening eight minutes and sailed to a 13-1 lead heading into halftime. Freshman Shauna Clark (Oakland, Maine) netted her 22nd goal of the season on a free position shot to extend the visitors' advantage to 19-1 with 11:36 left in the third period. The Pride closed out the contest with three straight tallies, including a pair from Isabella Beane.

MILESTONE MET:

With an assist on a Bridget Collins (Milford, Conn.) goal at the 12:24 mark of the third quarter, Dexter became the sixth player in program history to reach the 200-career-point plateau. With 100 goals and 101 assists in 37 career games, she joins Elyse Caiazzo '18 (318 points), Cassie Diplock '14 (237), Alyssa Marchant '11 (231), Kat Gadbois '16 (218) and Lauren Hagerman '10 (207) on the short list of SJC players who have reached the milestone.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held the lead in shots (33-20), shots on goal (23-11), ground balls (34-25), draw controls (19-8) and caused turnovers (12-10) in the victory.

THE KEEPERS:

SJC freshman starter Morgan Wright (Chelmsford, Mass.) improved to 9-0 on the season after making three saves in nearly 39 minutes while first-year Mackenzie Baston (Gray, Maine) turned away four shots in 21:14 minutes of relief duty.

Regis netminder Grace Heffernan made four saves in the losing effort.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Dexter netted four goals with six assists on five shots
  • Collins scored five goals with four ground balls and three caused turnovers
  • Freshman Brianna Paul (Brattleboro, Vt.) added three goals, two assists, and four ground balls
  • Sophomore Carson Battaglia (Gorham, Maine) picked up 14 draw controls and added a goal and two assists
  • Clark notched two goals and an assist with two ground balls and three draw controls
  • Sophomore Cailyn Wesley (Peabody, Mass.) chipped in with two goals, four ground balls, and two caused turnovers

LEADERS – REGIS:

  • Beane scored two goals on three shots
  • Kylee Marley added two goals and five draw controls
  • Morgan Pero chipped in with two assists and a pair of caused turnovers
  • Abbie Doheny picked up seven ground balls with two draw controls and two caused turnovers

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

Tonight's victory is the Monks' first over the Pride since the 2017 campaign and extends the program's all-time record versus Regis College to 7-3.
