St. Joe's Marches Past Pride, 83-56

WESTON, Mass. – Saint Joseph's College (3-6, 1-1 GNAC) defeated Regis College (2-7, 0-2 GNAC), 83-56, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks, who led from wire to wire, opened the game with six unanswered points and held an 18-5 advantage after senior guard Camryn Yorke (Auburn, Maine) hit a three-pointer off a Kolbyn Dunphe (Westbrook, Maine) pass with 11:21 left in the first half. The Pride clawed back into contention with an 11-3 surge to make it a 21-16 game three minutes later, but Saint Joseph's responded with a 12-3 run to regain a double-digit cushion and headed into intermission with a 42-26 lead.

St. Joe's proceeded to claim a game-high 29-point (65-36) advantage after grad Ashtyn Abbott (Farmingdale, Maine) made a layup with 11:22 remaining.

STATS OF THE GAME:

The Monks shot 49.2% (32-65) from the floor – as opposed to the 28.3% (17-60) rate posted by the Pride – and held a 42-14 lead in points in the paint…Saint Joseph's outrebounded Regis by a 50-29 margin.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Freshman guard Remijo Wani (Portland, Maine) scored 17 points off a 7-for-11 shooting performance with nine rebounds
  • Abbott made 7-of-9 attempts from the field with 17 points and six rebounds
  • Sophomore forward Wani Donato (Portland, Maine) registered a double-double with 16 points and 11 boards and added four assists and a pair of blocks
  • Sophomore guard John Paul Frazier (York, Maine) added 13 points, six caroms, and three assists
  • Junior guard Teagan Hynes (York, Maine) tallied six points, five rebounds, and three assists

LEADERS – REGIS:

  • Gehrig Brynda came off the bench to score 12 points off a 4-for-6 three-point shooting effort
  • Joshua Perez scored nine points with three assists
  • Jamir Harvey scored eight points with seven rebounds
  • Russell Rau and Justin Evelyn chipped in with eight points apiece

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

Saint Joseph's is now 7-1 in the history of the series with Regis College and has now defeated the Pride in three straight meetings.

Saint Joseph's will play at Endicott College on Wednesday in a non-conference contest set to start at 7:00 PM.
