GORHAM, Maine – Junior attack Tim Goodfellow (Wayland, Mass.) tied an NCAA DIII record with 15 assists to help Saint Joseph's College (3-5) topple University of Southern Maine (2-5), 29-13, in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon. The Monks have now won three-consecutive games.

With the impressive assist output, Goodfellow ties the D3 record set by Thomas Tillett of Benedictine (IL), who delivered 15 helpers versus Concordia Chicago on April 12, 2022.

RECORD BREAKERS:

Goodfellow, who also netted three goals in the triumph, also broke the Monks' single-game points record with 18, shattering the previous mark held by Spencer Hunt, who registered 14 points versus Green Mountain College on April 3rd, 2010.

Goodfellow's assists tally breaks the team record set by Tiger Hopkins (Leeds, Maine) just 11 days ago, when the first-year attack dealt 10 helpers in a 19-2 triumph over New England College.

The Monks also set new team single-game records for goals (previously 26 vs. Mitchell, 3/26/09), assists (27; previously vs. Regis, 4/6/22), points (56; previously 39 most recently vs. Regis, 4/6/22), and shots on goal (47; previously 45 vs. Albertus Magnus, 4/20/19).

NOTEWORTHY:

The team's 27 assists is the most helpers dealt by any NCAA DIII team so far this spring…57 total points is the second-highest total recorded this season, only Washington & Jefferson (60 vs. LaRoche, 2/22) has produced a higher points tally...Only five teams (Washington & Jefferson, Marian, Tufts, Illinois Wesleyan, and LaGrange) have scored more goals in a game in 2023.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held the lead in shots (64-36), shots on goal (47-19), ground balls (41-37), fewest turnovers (13-30), and caused turnovers (16-5) while Southern Maine posted a 27-19 advantage in face-offs.

THE KEEPERS:

SJC senior starter Brannon Gilbert (Gray, Maine) improves to 3-2 on the season after making five saves in 49:23 in net. Sophomore Liam Greene (Mansfield, Mass.) turned away one shot in 10:37 of relief duty.

For USM, Tanner Nussinow took the loss after posting 17 saves in 49:49 between the pipes and Addison Dietz notched one stop in 10:11 in goal.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

• Goodfellow enjoyed a career day with three goals and 15 assists for 18 total points and picked up a pair of ground balls
• Senior Xavier Michaud (Wales, Maine) netted eight goals on 10 shots with a pair of assists
• Hopkins added three goals, four assists, and two ground balls
• Senior Noah Tierney-Honan (Dracut, Mass.) netted four goals with two ground balls
• Sophomore Will Levesque (Marlow, N.H.) scored three goals on three shots
• Sophomores Tyler Moscato (West Haven, Conn.) and Aidan Dennis (Hooksett, N.H.) registered a goal and an assist apiece
• Sophomore Anthony Samiotes (Hampstead, N.H.) produced nine ground balls and three caused turnovers
• Freshman Nick Wesley (Peabody, Mass.) chipped in with five ground balls
• Junior Ian Barker (Norton, Mass.) was 13-for-26 on face-offs

LEADERS – SOUTHERN MAINE:

• Nick James tallied five goals, two assists, and three ground balls
• Omar Contreras added four goals on eight shots
• Schuyler Wetmore contributed two goals, four assists, and two ground balls
• Cayden Poisson-Bragdon was 22-for-36 on face-offs with eight ground balls
• Dylan Whitney notched five ground balls and three caused turnovers

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

The Monks are now 6-8 all-time versus the University of Southern Maine and have defeated the Huskies in five-consecutive meetings dating back to the 2018 season.
