Monks Surge Past Pride, 17-3

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (11-2, 9-0 GNAC) toppled Regis College (5-7, 3-6 GNAC), 17-3, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's lacrosse contest held at the SJC Athletics Complex on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks received goals from Bridget Collins (Milford, Conn.), Carson Battaglia (Gorham, Maine), and Shauna Clark (Oakland, Maine) to stake a 3-0 lead in the first quarter and headed into halftime with a 7-1 cushion after junior Teegan Gilreath (Lowell, Mass.) netted a man-up goal on a Collins feed 1:14 before the break.

Saint Joseph's claimed a 10-goal lead when grad student Lydia Dexter (Oakland, Maine) hit pay dirt on a Mackenzie Siebert (Naples, Maine) assist 1:10 into the third period and the hosts closed out the contest with four unanswered goals in the final nine minutes to clinch the 14-goal triumph.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held considerable leads in shots (41-14), shots on goal (35-10), ground balls (31-18), draw controls (18-5), and caused turnovers (19-11) in the victory.

THE KEEPERS:

The Monks split time in the cage, as freshman Alexis Eldridge (Effingham, N.H.) turned away three shots in the first half and sophomore Morgan Wright (Chelmsford, Mass.) made four stops in the second stanza.

Pride freshman netminder Daniela Mazo (Bridgeport, Conn.) made 18 saves in a losing effort.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Collins tied a career-high with five goals and added an assist
  • Dexter scored four goals with two assists, five ground balls, four caused turnovers, and two draw controls
  • Clark added two goals, three assists, and a pair of draw controls
  • Battaglia posted three goals, 13 draw controls, and four ground balls
  • Siebert chipped in with a goal and three assists
  • Junior Heather Rohr (Merrimack, N.H.) scored a goal with five ground balls and four caused turnovers

LEADERS – REGIS:

  • Kylee Marley (Westerly, R.I.), Serenity Ayala (North Brookfield, Mass.), and Madeline Conover (West Newbury, Mass.) scored goals for the Pride
  • Abbie Doheny (Lunenberg, Mass.) added three ground balls and three draw controls

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the win, Saint Joseph's improves to 8-3 all-time versus Regis College and has now defeated the Pride in three-consecutive meetings.
