PURCHASE, N.Y. – Saint Joseph's College (5-2) rallied from a two-goal deficit in the fourth quarter and senior Carson Battaglia (Gorham, Maine) netted the game-winner with 12 seconds left  as the Monks defeated Manhattanville College (1-3), 11-10, in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Thursday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Valiants held a 3-1 lead after the first quarter, but the Monks took advantage of a flurry of cards dealt to the hosts to grab a 4-3 edge. Sophia Burton (Westtown, N.Y.), Taylor Dumond (Minisink, N.Y.), and Carson Battaglia (Gorham, Maine) netted man-up markers all in a matter of three minutes to put the visitors on top with 8:21 before the break.

The teams swapped scores during the remainder of the second quarter as the Monks led 6-5 at intermission, but the Valiants tallied three of the four goals scored during the third period  and two of the first three in the fourth frame to secure a 10-8 lead with 5:24 to play.

Junior Mackenzie Siebert (Naples, Maine) and Dumond struck with free-position goals at the 2:21 and 1:06 marks, respectively, to set the stage for Battaglia, who won the ensuing draw and pocketed the winning goal off a Siebert assist with 12 seconds on the clock.
