Leopards Outlast Monks, 13-10

Box Score

STANDISH, Maine – Wentworth Institute (3-1) outlasted Saint Joseph's College (1-2), 13-10, in a non-conference men's lacrosse contest at the SJC Athletics Complex on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Senior Tim Goodfellow (Wayland, Mass.) kicked off the scoring with a strike 2:12 after the opening whistle, but the Leopards countered by netting five of the game's next six goals, as man-up tallies from Colin Ocampo (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.) and Logan Maklan (Boca Raton, Fla.) early in the second stanza to stake a 5-2 lead 1:09 into the frame.

The Monks' offense finally came to life with three straight goals, as grad Xavier Michaud (Wales, Maine) netted a pair and Nathaniel Girardin (Brunswick, Maine) struck to tie the game at five apiece with 2:17 before the break. Unfortunately for the Royal Blue, the Leopards received a goal from Jared Hiller with 15 seconds on the second quarter clock and opened the third frame with five unanswered scores to claim an 11-5 cushion with 9:08 to play in the penultimate period.

After a timeout, Saint Joseph's rallied with a 4-0 run that included a pair of Tyler Moscato (West Haven, Conn.) goals and cut the Wentworth advantage to 11-9 with 10:38 left in the final quarter, but the Leopards' defense clamped down and the visitors scored twice during the following three minutes to build an insurmountable lead.
