STANDISH, Maine – Wentworth Institute of Technology (20-9) defeated Saint Joseph's College (5-18), 7-3, in a non-conference baseball contest at Larry Mahaney Diamond on Thursday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Leopards scored two runs on three hits in the top of the third and doubled their lead with the help of an SJC error in the top of the fifth. Wentworth tacked on another run in the top of the seventh when senior catcher A.T. DiPina (Pawtucket, R.I.) walked, stole second and third, and scored on a Jake Prisco (Bridgewater, Mass.) groundout.

The Monks finally got on the board with two runs on three hits and a Wentworth error, as sophomore shortstop Luke Doughty (York, Maine) singled and later scored on a Michael Wearne (Ellington, Conn.) base hit and freshman Vinny O'Leary (North Quincy, Mass.) singled and crossed the plate on a Dawson Gundlah (York, Maine) sac fly.

The Leopards answered in kind in the top of the eighth with a pair of runs on two hits and a Saint Joseph's error and the Monks closed out the game scoring in the bottom of the inning when junior Alex Moore (Henniker, N.H.) walked and raced home on a Jared Wilhelm (Tolland, Conn.) doubled to deep center.

ON THE MOUND:

Junior starter Zack Adams (Norton, Mass.) took the loss after allowing two runs on four hits and a walk in three innings while relievers Logan Butkins (Scituate, R.I.), Victor Caira (Newton, Mass.), and Andrew Keniston (Center Ossipee, N.H.) combined to yield five runs (three earned) on five hits and seven walks with six strikeouts in 4.2 innings. Senior Morgen Doughty (Smithfield, R.I.) finished the game with 1.1 innings of scoreless relief.

Wentworth freshman Jacob DeCoste (Medfield, Mass.) earned the win and improved to 3-0 after working six scoreless innings while scattering six hits and fanning four batters. Chase Carder (Gorham, N.H.), Brady Aubuchon (Westminster, Mass.), and Jon Campbell (Snohomish, Wash.) combined to yield three runs on five hits and three walks with four K's across three innings of relief.

OFF THE BAT:

• Doughty went 2-4 with a run scored
• Sophomore Dylan Brander (Merrimack, N.H.) was 2-4 with two singles
• Gundlah went 2-4 with an RBI
• For the Leopards, Christian Roncal and Christian Peruzzi notched two hits apiece and DiPina stole three bases

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

Saint Joseph's is now 0-3 in the history of the series with Wentworth Institute.
