STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (4-12, 1-2 GNAC) snapped a six-game losing streak with a 6-2 victory over Dean College (3-11, 0-5 GNAC) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) baseball action at Larry Mahaney Diamond on Tuesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Bulldogs scored the first run of the game when freshman right fielder Nathan Suncar (Boston, Mass.) launched a solo home run to right field in the top of the second inning. The Monks responded with two runs on three hits and a Dean error in the bottom of the second, when junior right fielder Alex Moore (Henniker, N.H.) and sophomore shortstop Luke Doughty (York, Maine) posted RBI singles.

Saint Joseph's added to the lead in the bottom of the fourth when Doughty roped a two-run single to right-center and freshman second baseman Vinny O'Leary (North Quincy, Mass.) knocked in a run with an infield ground out, lifting the hosts to a 5-2 advantage.

Dean managed to tack on a run on an Owen Critchley (Dayton, Maine) sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth, but St. Joe's regained the four-run lead in the bottom of the eighth when senior Luke Stephens (Glastonbury, Conn.) worked a lead-off walk and sprinted home three batters later when sophomore Michael Richards (Melrose, Mass.) doubled to left-center.

ON THE MOUND:

  • SJC sophomore Padraig Mac Seain (Brookline, N.H.) picked up his first win of the season after allowing one run on four hits with nine strikeouts over six innings
  • Senior starter Matt Thibault (Nashua, N.H.) allowed one hit – the solo homer – with two walks and a pair of strikeouts in three innings
  • Dean freshman starter Kieran Karson (Raynham, Mass.) suffered the loss after giving up five runs (three earned) on five hits while sophomore Jacob Koble (Narragansett, Mass.) gave up a run on three hits and two walks in four innings of relief

OFF THE BAT:

  • Doughty went 2-4 with three RBI
  • Sophomore Dylan Brander (Merrimack, N.H.) was 2-4 with two runs scored
  • Stephens was 0-2 but managed to score three runs
  • The Bulldogs did not feature a repeat hitter as Suncar produced his team's only extra-base hit, the solo homer in the top of the second

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

The Monks did not strike out in today's triumph, marking the first time an SJC team did not record a strikeout since April 28th, 2017 when St. Joe's accomplished the same feat versus Norwich University.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the victory, Saint Joseph's improves to 6-1 all-time versus Dean College and has now defeated the Bulldogs in six-consecutive meetings.
