STANDISH, MAINE -
A strong effort by Saint Joseph's came up short as a goal by USM
senior Kayla Vaughan (Monroe, ME) in the second minute of overtime
pushed the Huskies to a 2-1 victory.
USM (5-6) took a 1-0 lead at 29:05 on a goal by
sophomore Samantha Johnson (Mexico, ME) and held a 9-0 advantage in
shots in the first half.
Junior Sarah Kay
(Lewiston, ME) gave St. Joe's (0-9) a lift scoring the tying goal
with just under seven minutes to go in regulation. St. Joe's had
two penalty corners in the second half, but was unable to get
another goal past the Huskies defense.
Sophomore keeper Mandy
Gosselin (Lebanon, ME) had nine saves for St.
Joe's while USM keeper first year Natalie Nimon (Augusta, ME) faced
only the shot by Kay.
The St. Joe's squad plays at Wheelock College (MA)
on Saturday, October 8, at 3:30 PM.
