Box Score

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Field Hockey team dropped their final game of the 2016 season this afternoon to visiting Saint Joseph's College (Me.), 6-0 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at Raider Field. The game marks the finale for the Raiders who finish the 2016 campaign at 4-11 with a 1-5 conference record. The Monks, meanwhile, are now at 11-5 overall and 5-1 in the conference. They have secured the overall #1 seed in the upcoming GNAC Tournament as they hold the head-to-head tie-breaker over Simmons College.

The Monks got the scoring started early as junior Elyse Caiazzo (Scarborough, Maine) (4th of the season) knocked one home on a pass from sophomore Samantha Silva (Laconia, N.H.) at 3:10. Four minutes later, sophomore Kara Kelly (York, Maine) added to the lead with her 5th goal of the season off a feed from freshman Libby Pomerleau (Limerick, Maine). Pomerleau would then record a goal of her own at 23:39 as Caiazzo assisted on the play and freshman Katie Hunter (Raymond, Maine) finished off the first half scoring her first NCAA goal at 34:27.

Only two goals were scored in the final 35 minutes and senior Kelsey Dumond (Lewiston, Maine) netted both of them. Her first goal came at 54:10 as Kara Kelly set her up and Pomerleau recorded her third assist of the afternoon on Dumond's second goal (9th of the season) at 69:39.

Rivier sophomore goalkeeper Emily Foster (West Lebanon, N.H.) made 13 saves on the afternoon while Saint Joseph's sophomore keeper Megan Baker (Gorham, Maine) did not see a shot on net.

The 2016 Rivier Field Hockey came to an end this afternoon with the loss. Saint Joseph's will have a non-conference contest on Wednesday evening at Plymouth State as they prepare for the GNAC Tournament next weekend.
