Softball Season Comes to a Close with Loss to Albertus Magnus

BOSTON, Mass. - #4 Albertus Magnus College (30-14) defeated #2 Saint Joseph's College (22-17), 8-0 in five innings, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament elimination contest on Saturday evening.

With the loss, the Monks' tourney run comes to a close. Earlier today, Saint Joseph's defeated #8 Simmons College, 6-3, in an elimination game to remain in the hunt.

Albertus Magnus will face #3 Suffolk University in the final elimination contest of the tournament tomorrow at 10:00 AM with the winner advancing to the GNAC Championship facing top-seeded Johnson & Wales University.

Albertus Magnus starter Megan Ferraro faced one batter over the minimum over five innings while scattering two hits with a strikeout en route to picking up her 14th win of the season.

Saint Joseph's starter Kristal Smith (Pittston, Maine) falls to 8-6 after allowing six runs off six hits and a walk with three K's in two innings.

Senior center fielder Carla Tripp (Lovell, Maine) and freshman second baseman Libby Pomerleau (Saco, Maine) each had a hit in the Monks' season-ending setback.

Left fielder Morgan Shura led the Falcons' offensive efforts by going 2-2 with three RBI while second baseman Rachel Cataudella went 2-3 with two runs, a double, and a triple.
