Monks Drop Pair to Saints, 10-4 & 8-0

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (11-13, 6-3 GNAC) suffered a sweep in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) softball doubleheader against Emmanuel College (12-9, 8-0 GNAC) at Richard W. Bailey Field on Saturday afternoon. The Saints opened with a 10-4 triumph and completed the two-game set with an 8-0 victory.

GAME ONE:

Freshman Sylvia Foley (Scarborough, Maine) capitalized in the bottom of the first with bases loaded double to put the Monks up by three-runs. The offense for both teams was slow until Kiana Hinson hit a three run double for the Saints in the top of the fourth to tie the game. The Saints continued to further their lead with Abigail Farr going 3-for-3 with an RBI single, Madison Marks singled in the fifth to bring two runs in, and Olivia Conti hit an inside the park home run.

SJC junior starter Meredith Pence (Remington, Va.) is now 5-5 on the season after allowing seven hits and five earned runs in five innings. Olivia Howe (Arundel, Maine) went 3-for-4 and Laurel Clace (Keene, N.H.) hit a sacrifice fly that brought Lydia Goodnough (Kennebunkport, Maine) in to score.  

GAME TWO:

The momentum for the Saints carried into the concluding contest with starter Brenna Whittaker allowing just five hits and a walk in six innings. Grace Orcutt went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Jadynne Hill hit a two-run homer in the fourth, and Hinson, Farr, and Marks each notched an RBI. The Monks were unable to score in game two with Baily Rassol (Rehoboth, Mass.) going 2-for-3 and Ashley Emery (Madison, Maine), Goodnough, and Howe tallying singles.

Starter Sydney Hatch (Newburgh, Maine) is now 2-5 on the season after giving up 12 hits and seven earned runs in five innings.

NEXT!

Saint Joseph's will host a non-conference doubleheader against the University of New England on Wednesday with the opener set to start at 5:00 PM.
