STANDISH, Maine – University of Southern Maine (8-12) toppled Saint Joseph's College (12-10), 12-0, in a non-conference baseball game at Larry Mahaney Diamond on Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The contest was scoreless through two innings before the Huskies broke through in the top of the third with five runs on five hits and an SJC error. USM added three runs in the fourth, including a two-run homer off the bat of junior Arlo Pike (Buxton, Maine), and the visitors put the game out of reach with three runs off three hits and another Monk error in the top of the fifth.

The Monks' best chance to find the scoreboard occurred in the bottom of the sixth when they loaded the bases with two out, but the hosts could not convert in what was their second shutout loss of the season.

ON THE MOUND:

• SJC senior starter Johnny Flynn (Holden, Mass.) took the loss after allowing five runs (three earned) on five hits and a walk with a pair of K's in 2.1 innings
• SJC relievers Hugh Barrett (Durham, Conn.), Anthony Esposito (Orange, Conn.), Matthew Murphy (Plymouth, Mass.) and Luke Stephens (Glastonbury, Conn.) combined to toss 4.2 innings while giving up an unearned run on two hits and three walks with six strikeouts
• For the Huskies, starter Clay Robbins earned the win after allowing three hits with three strikeouts in 5.1 innings; Dylan Miner, Nick Polizonis and Lucas Francis combined to work 3.2 innings of one-hit relief with six punch-outs

OFF THE BAT:

• USM shortstop Janek Luksza was 3-for-5 with two runs, a stolen base, and two RBI and Pike was 2-for-3 with two runs, a double, a home run, and three RBI

Saint Joseph's will play a pair of conference games at Colby-Sawyer College on Saturday. The opener is scheduled to begin at 12:00 PM.
