Adams Breaks Team Mark with Six Goals in Lopsided GNAC Victory

Box Score

STANDISH, Maine – Senior Aimee Adams (Gardiner, Maine) broke the Monks' single-game record with six goals to help propel Saint Joseph's College (7-3, 4-0 GNAC) past Regis College (2-6, 2-1 GNAC), 12-2, in a Great Northeast Athletics Conference (GNAC) field hockey matchup at the SJC Athletics Complex on Wednesday evening.

Senior Molly McCluskey (Orono, Maine) also tied the SJC single-game assists record with four helpers in the one-sided contest. Emma Rutledge '22, who netted five goals versus Albertus Magnus on October 16th, 2021, previously held the Monks' goals record.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Adams kicked off the scoring with her first marker of the evening off a Molly McCluskey (Orono, Maine) feed in the eighth minute and first-year Maya Waryas (Bellows Falls, Vt.) netted two-consecutive goals over a four-minute span to make it a 3-0 game with 12 minutes left in the first half.

Seniors Megan Quirion (Oakland, Maine) and Morgan Dalton (Lisbon Falls, Maine) hit pay dirt in the 23rd and 28th minutes, respectively, to lift the hosts to a 5-0 advantage before Regis sophomore Frankie Alley (Gardner, Mass.) put the visitors on the board with her first of two goals on the evening at the 27:22 mark.

Adams potted her second of the night with 1:30 left in the first half as the Monks headed into intermission with a daunting 6-1 lead.

The second half was more of the same, as Royal Blue put up six more goals – including four by Adams – to clinch the 10-goal victory. Alley opened the second stanza scoring 29 seconds into the penultimate period, but the Pride failed to put forth any offensive pressure for the remainder of the evening.

Adams broke the Monks' single-game goals record with an unassisted tally at the 52:33 mark. McCluskey and freshman Emilia Galimberti (Wolfeboro, N.H.) also joined in on the second half offensive onslaught.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held the lead in shots (35-4), shots on goal (22-4), and penalty corners (9-1) in the GNAC triumph.

THE KEEPERS:

SJC sophomore Kassidy Collins made a pair of saves in the victory while Regis netminders Jocelyn White (4 saves) and Sarai Velez (5) combined to make nine stops in a losing bid.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the win, Saint Joseph's improves to 10-4 all-time versus Regis College and has now defeated the Pride in eight-consecutive meetings dating back to the 2007 season.

For the Monks, tonight's goal output ranks as the second-highest total in the history of the program. St. Joe's set the team record with 13 goals in a win over Bay Path on September 7th, 2009.

Saint Joseph's will host Johnson & Wales University on Saturday at 11:00 AM.
