STANDISH, Maine – Simmons University (13-3, 9-3 GNAC) powered past Saint Joseph's College (6-11, 6-6 GNAC), 5-0, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) field hockey action at the SJC Athletics Complex on Tuesday evening.

SENIOR MOMENT:

Prior to the start of the contest the Monks held a brief ceremony honoring the program's two seniors: Kayla Collins (Windham, Maine) and Hannah Michael (Hampton Falls, N.H.). Michael is in her first season with the Monks and has been a steadying force on the SJC backline. Collins has been a member of the SJC field hockey program since 2018, when she joined the team as a high school sophomore as a Team IMPACT (Inspire, Motivate, Play Against Challenges, Together) signee. Both players were joined by their parents and other family members on the field for photos and a round of applause.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Simmons junior Sydney Gonyea (Lebanon, N.H.) scored three goals, including two in the fourth quarter, while Anna Tedeschi (Hanover, Mass.) and Lilly Taglieri (Westfield, Mass.) also found the back of the net to cap the Sharks' scoring ledger.

The Monks recorded four shots overall and three on net, with sophomore Maya Waryas (Bellows Falls, Vt.) steering two on target in the setback.

TEAM STATS:

Simmons held the lead in shots (22-4), shots on goal (15-3), and penalty corners (13-1) in the victory.

THE KEEPERS:

SJC junior Kassidy Collins (Pittston, Maine) made nine saves in the losing bid while Simmons freshman Haley Bright (Norfolk, Mass.) posted three saves in a shutout performance.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the result Saint Joseph's falls to 20-9 all-time versus Simmons University and has now suffered three-consecutive losses at the hands of the Sharks.
