STANDISH, MAINE - Saint Joseph's women's
basketball's three-game winning streak was halted as Maine Maritime
(9-2) defeated the Monks 57-39 before a large crowd at the Alfond
Center.
St. Joe's jumped out to a 3-0 lead on a jumper by
senior Brittany Rauscher (Oakland, ME), but it
would be the only SJC lead in the contest as Maritime went into the
break up 28-18. Rauscher scored 10 of her game-high 18 points in
the first half.
Aided by a dismal 27% St. Joe's shooting
performance, the Mariners reeled off three unanswered baskets to
start the second half and put the game out of reach. The Monks
(6-7) were without the services of two starters and struggled to
find any rhythm offensively.
Senior Danielle Somma (Gray, ME)
turned in a tremendous defensive effort and sophomore
Yoandree Pierre-Jacques (Providence, RI) was a
force on the boards.
Junior Alyssa Burns (Dixfield, ME) led the Mariners
with 16 points and junior Michelle Gott (Tremont, ME) had 11.
Both teams return to action on 1/18, with St. Joe's
hosting Lasell College at 7 p.m. and Maritime hosting Thomas
College at 7:30 p.m.
