Standish, ME- The Saint Joseph's College women's basketball team
dropped their home opener to Maine-Farmington tonight, 89-51. The
young Monks squad had few answers for the 2006 NAC champion and
NCAA tournament participant.
Farmington first-year Caitlyn Laflin (Farmingdale, ME) led all
scorers with 22 points.
First-year Carolyn Freeman (Scarborough, ME)
continued to impress, scoring a team-high 13 points. Junior captain
Megan Farrell (Abington, MA) finished with 11
points and 9 rebounds and junior captain Marie
Lint (Orono, ME) had 9 points.
Farmington jumped out to a 7-0 lead and never looked back.
Senior captain Karen Sirois (Augusta, ME) and first-year Stephanie
Bossie (Winslow, ME) had 13 points apiece.
Although the Monks were unable to recover after a disastrous
defensive performance in the first half, they fought throughout the
second stanza, but UMF continued to find the open player and make
the extra pass for easy baskets. Farmington (2-1) shot 55% from the
floor while St. Joe's (1-2) was 40.8%.
St. Joe's returns to action at home on Sunday, November 26th at
3:00 PM.
