STANDISH, ME - Saint Joseph's (6-12, 0-3 GNAC) defeated Maine
Maritime Academy (7-7) in five sets (25-18, 25-22, 22-25, 19-25,
15-10) on Saturday afternoon to complete the tri-match sweep.
Samantha Varrell '12 (Portsmouth,
NH) led six Lady Monks who reached double digits in digs with 19
and also recorded 28 assists in the victory.
Also posting impressive numbers for Coach Razsa were
Mary Hoyt '11 (Rochester, NH)
with 17 digs, Katie Boccanelli
'12 (Cottonwood, AL) with 16 digs, nine kills and five blocks,
Jordan Pelczar '12 (Meredith, NH)
with 13 digs and Laura Moreau '12
(Rollinsford, NH) with 12 digs. Kiersten
Carbone '12 (North Reading, MA) nearly posted a
double-double with 10 digs and nine kills in the winning
effort.
Also of note, Hoyt and Varrell both blasted three service aces in
the match.
Adrienne Hinson posted 21 digs and 34 assists for the Mariners
while Lauren Sakahara and Alex Kolinich each recorded 32 digs in
the losing bid.
Saint Joseph's will play at Bates College on Wednesday, October 1st
at 7:00 PM while Maine Maritime Academy will play at Husson
University on Wednesday at 7:00 PM.
