STANDISH, ME - Saint Joseph's (15-16, 3-7 GNAC) topped University of Southern Maine (4-16, 0-5 LEC), 25-18, 25-15, 25-16, in non-conference women's volleyball action at the Harold Alfond Center on Thursday evening. SJC setter Kiah Begley '13 (Berwick, ME/St. Thomas Aquinas) recorded 23 digs and 20 assists, both match highs, in the winning effort.

Monks middle blocker Sarah Hawkes '13 (Pownal, ME) collected a match-best 11 kills, 5 digs and 4 solo blocks and Samantha Varrell '12 (Portsmouth, NH) notched a double-double with 11 digs and 10 assists. Caitlin Cleary '13 (Scarborough, ME) chipped in with 7 kills and Kaleigh McHale '12 (Dracut, MA) belted 3 service aces.

For USM, Laurie Boulay '12 (Biddeford, ME) netted 13 digs and 9 assists and Danielle Netland '10 (Cumberland, ME) had 8 digs and 6 kills.

St. Joe's will close out the 2009 campaign with a conference tri-match at Johnson & Wales on Saturday. The Monks will play Pine Manor at 12:00 PM and JWU at 4:00 PM. USM will play in a Little East tri-match on Saturday with Eastern Connecticut at UMass-Dartmouth on Saturday.
