WESTON, MA - Saint Joseph's (3-4) lost a pair of
hard-fought matches to Rhode Island College (1-3; 13-25, 18-25,
25-20, 16-25) and WPI (1-3; 17-25, 26-24, 22-25, 15-25) to close
out the Pride Invitational on Sunday afternoon.
Kiah Begley '13 (Berwick, ME/St.
Thomas Aquinas) dealt 51 assists in the two matches, while
Sarah Hawkes '13 (Pownal, ME) (20
kills, 3 blocks) and Caitlin
Cleary '13 (Scarborough, ME) (20 kills, 19 digs, 5
aces) continued to play well for the Monks.
F or her outstanding play during the invitational,
Hawkes collected All-Tournament recognition. The
freshman netted 60 kills, 22 against Regis on Saturday, and eight
total blocks in five matches of play for St. Joe's.
Saint Joseph's will hit the court again when the Monks host the
Autumn Invitational, beginning with a match against Maine-Machias
on Friday, September 11th at 6:00 PM.
