Box Score 2 BOSTON, MA – Saint Joseph's (13-8, 4-2 GNAC) earned a
split in a GNAC tri-match with a 3-1 win over Suffolk (8-12, 2-3
GNAC) after falling to Johnson & Wales (16-8, 7-0 GNAC), 3-0,
at Suffolk University on Saturday.
Despite the 3-0 score, the Monks had a strong showing against
four-time GNAC Champion Johnson & Wales. The Royal Blue battled
in each of the three sets, with 25-18, 25-18 and 25-17 setbacks. Sarah Coffey '14
(Hanover, MA) belted a team-high seven kills and Kiah Begley '13 (Berwick,
ME/Saint Thomas Aquinas) registered 15 assists in the SJC loss.
Brooke Dyer '14
(Lebanon, ME/Saint Thomas Aquinas) proceeded to lead the Monks to
victory (22-25, 25-16, 26-24 & 25-17) with 13 kills and 10 digs
against the Rams in the nightcap match. Dyer registered or tied
career-highs in kills, digs, total attacks (35) and attack
percentage (.257) in the victory.
St. Joe's saw five players reach double-digit dig totals and
nearly broke a team record for digs in four sets with 84 against
the Rams. Sarah
Hawkes '13 (Pownal, ME), who added seven kills and five total
blocks to her stat line, led Monks with 22 digs, while Begley (16),
Coffey (14), Dyer (10) and Erica Russi '14 (Debary,
FL) (10) all reached double digits. The program record for digs in
four sets, 91, came against Southern Maine during the 2002
season.
With Saturday's results, the Monks fall to 0-5 all-time against
JWU and improve to 5-2 against Suffolk.
Saint Joseph's will host Husson University (15-4, 3-1 NAC) in a
non-conference match on Wednesday at 7:00 PM.
