Box Score 2 NEWTON, MA – Saint Joseph's (8-4, 1-1 GNAC) split a pair
of five-set conference matches Saturday, earning a 3-2 win over
tri-match host Lasell College (3-5, 1-1) before suffering a 3-2
loss to Pine Manor College (3-3, 1-1).
Saint Joseph's defeats Lasell College, 3-2 (25-11,
23-25, 15-25, 25-15, 15-10)
The Monks defeated the Lasers in the opening set by a 25-11
tally, but the hosts managed to gain a 2-1 match lead over the
following two sets. Saint Joseph's rebounded with 25-15 and 15-10
triumphs to defeat the Lasers for the first time since the 2003
campaign.
Three Monks notched double-double performances, including Kiah Begley '13
(Berwick, ME/Saint Thomas Aquinas) who recorded an assist on 42 of
the Monks' 49 kills with 14 digs and four aces. Sarah Hawkes '13 (Pownal,
ME) chipped in with 23 digs and 10 kills and Sarah Coffey '14 (Hanover,
MA) added 10 kills, while Brooke Dyer '14 (Lebanon,
ME/Saint Thomas Aquinas) belted a career-and-match-high 13 kills
with eight digs in the triumph. Meaghan Harney '14
(Hollis, NH) added six digs and three aces off the bench.
For Lasell, Meghan Crozier dealt 30 assists on 33 Laser kills
and had nine digs, Eileen Barrett knocked down 12 kills, and
Danielle Drapeau recorded 10 kills. Melanie Costa notched a
match-best 24 digs in a losing effort.
Saint Joseph's held advantages in kills (51-34), attack
percentage (.150-.019), service aces (12-8) and digs (85-79) in the
triumph. The Lasers committed 33 attack errors in the loss.
