Monks Fall to Saints, Top Cadets in GNAC Tri-Match

NORTHFIELD, VT – Saint Joseph's College (17-8, 6-2 GNAC) split a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) volleyball tri-match on Saturday afternoon. The Monks fell, 3-0, to Emmanuel College (18-10, 8-0 GNAC) and rebounded to defeat tri-host Norwich University (4-18, 2-6 GNAC), 3-0, later in the day.

In the opener versus Emmanuel, miscues derailed the Monks' efforts as the Royal Blue committed 22 attack errors, as well as eight service errors, in the shutout setback. As a result of the performance up front, Saint Joseph's posted the team's lowest attack success rate (.010) of the season.

Sophomore Felicia Wachowiak (Milton, N.H.) paced the Monks with seven kills while freshman Mariah Hebert (Biddeford, Maine) posted 17 assists, sophomore Abbie McPhee (Epping, N.H.) tallied 14 digs and senior Erica Russi (Debary, Fla.) contributed 10 digs and a pair of aces in the losing bid.

Shannon Dudley, Sarah Colby and Kaitlyn Atkinson registered eight kills apiece for the Saints.

Saint Joseph's responded with a convincing 3-0 victory over Norwich in the nightcap, as the Royal Blue posted a solid .238 attack rate with 35 kills and 10 errors in 105 attempts at the net.

Wachowiak once again led the effort by recording 14 kills and five total blocks and freshman Victoria Huntley (Ellsworth, Maine) boasted eight kills and 11 digs in the victory. Hebert added 22 assists and eight digs, freshman Shadai Gosselin (Somersworth, N.H.) registered seven kills and nine digs and sophomore Alli Hollander (Thermal, Calif.) chipped in with six digs and five total blocks in the triumph. McPhee also played well and recorded 10 digs for the visitors.

Kelsey Mancini paced the Cadets with 14 kills and Corinne Balta dealt 22 assists in a losing effort for the hosts.

Saint Joseph's will play at University of Southern Maine on Thursday at 7:00 PM.
