McNamara Breaks SJC Three-Pointer Record in 85-64 Win Over Anna Maria

PAXTON, Mass. – Sophomore guard Kelsi McNamara (West Newbury, Mass.) scored 30 points to help Saint Joseph's College (13-2, 7-0 GNAC) defeat Anna Maria College (2-12, 0-7 GNAC), 85-64, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's basketball action on Monday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

A sluggish start resulted in a 19-15 deficit after the first quarter, but the Monks responded 31 points – the team's largest single-quarter tally of the season thus far – in the second frame and carried a 46-35 lead into intermission.

The conference counterparts played even in the third quarter and Saint Joseph's held a 17-7 advantage in the fourth stanza en route to the 21-point victory.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • McNamara broke the Monks' single-game three-point field goal record (previously six) by going 8-12 from downtown and was 10-16 from the field overall with six rebounds, three assists, and a pair of blocked shots
  • Sophomore forward Emily Benway (Rochester, N.H.) tallied 17 points and seven rebounds while making seven of eight attempts from the field
  • Sophomore guard Hannah Marks (Waldoboro, Maine) came off the bench to score 11 points with two assists and a pair of steals
  • Junior forward Brianne Maloney (South Portland, Maine) chipped in with nine points and three boards
  • Sophomore guard Julia Champagne (Brunswick, Maine) added eight points, five caroms, three assists, and two steals

LEADERS – ANNA MARIA:

  • Senior Nicole Mareiro (Acushnet, Mass.) totaled 19 points with three rebounds and was 4-5 from beyond the arc 
  • Kristina Russo (South Windsor, Conn.) added 12 points, four assists, and three boards 
  • Christina Gauvin (Dudley, Mass.) contributed 11 points, four caroms, and three helpers
  • Freshman Leah Wright (Summerville, S.C.) came off the bench to score 10 points off a 3-4 three-point-shooting performance

Both teams return to conference action Thursday, when Saint Joseph's hosts University of Saint Joseph at 5:30 PM and Anna Maria travels to Norwich University for a 7:00 PM tip-off.
