Monks March Past Cadets, 51-44

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (9-2, 3-0 GNAC) tipped Norwich University (6-4, 2-1 GNAC), 51-44, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's basketball contest at the Harold Alfond Center on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Led by three players with double-digit scoring totals, Saint Joseph's scored 19 points off 18 Norwich turnovers while coughing up the ball just 10 times in the seven-point triumph.

The Monks opened the contest on an 8-2 run and held an 18-10 cushion after the first quarter. The Cadets went 0-6 from three-point distance in the first frame and shot just 14.3% (3-21) from beyond the arc on the afternoon.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Sophomore guard Kelsi McNamara (West Newbury, Mass.) paced the Monks with 16 points off a 4-8 effort from downtown and a 4-6 free-throw shooting performance
  • Sophomore forward Emily Benway (Rochester, N.H.) notched her third double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds
  • Sophomore guard Hannah Marks (Waldoboro, Maine) came off the bench to score 10 points with three rebounds and a pair of steals
  • Sophomore guard Julia Champagne (Brunswick, Maine) chipped in with four points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals

LEADERS – NORWICH:

  • Senior Heather LeBlanc (Sanford, Maine) registered a double-double with 16 points and 11 boards while shooting 6-9 from the field and 4-4 from the charity stripe
  • Junior Shyann Josler (Thetford Center, Vt.) scored seven points with five assists
  • Sophomore Vanessa Fleury (Lebanon, N.H.) left the bench to net six points with six caroms

Saint Joseph's travels to Providence Tuesday for a 7:00 PM GNAC match-up versus Johnson & Wales University while Norwich also hits the road Tuesday for a conference tilt at Albertus Magnus College (5:00 PM).
