Dominant Second Quarter Propels Monks to 66-59 Win Over Rams

BOSTON, Mass. – Saint Joseph's College (18-3, 12-0 GNAC) defeated Suffolk University (15-7, 10-3 GNAC), 66-59, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's basketball contest on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Trailing 18-10 after the first quarter, Saint Joseph's flipped the switch in the second stanza, outscoring Suffolk by an 18-2 margin, including a 15-0 run to end the frame, which propelled the Monks to a 29-20 halftime advantage.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Junior forward Brianne Maloney (South Portland, Maine) came off the bench to score a team-high 14 points with four rebounds in 20 minutes
  • Sophomore guard Kelsi McNamara (West Newbury, Mass.) netted 13 points with two rebounds and four assists and was 8-10 from the FT line
  • Sophomore guard Julia Champagne (Brunswick, Maine) added nine points and 10 rebounds
  • Senior guard Abbie Eastman (Norway, Maine) chipped in with nine points, four caroms, and three assists

LEADERS – SUFFOLK:

  • Kelsey Schiebel paced the Rams with 13 points and added four rebounds and five assists
  • Georgia Bourikas added 12 points and eight boards
  • Alexandra Negri netted 11 points with four assists
  • Caitlyn Caramello contributed 11 points and five rebounds

Both teams are back in action Tuesday, when Saint Joseph's hosts Emmanuel College at 5:30 PM and Suffolk travels to Albertus Magnus College for a 7:00 PM tip-off.
