Saint Joseph's Routs Rivier, 91-50

NASHUA, N.H. – Saint Joseph's College (13-1, 6-0 GNAC) defeated Rivier University (0-9, 0-5 GNAC), 91-50, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's basketball contest on Saturday afternoon.

FIRST GLANCE:

Junior guard Julia Champagne (Brunswick, Maine) led four SJC players in double digits with 19 points and junior guard Kelsi McNamara (West Newbury, Mass.) notched a double-double with 14 points and 10 assists to help the Monks claim their 12th-consecutive victory, the fourth-longest win streak in program history.

THE REST OF THE STORY:

Saint Joseph's outscored Rivier by a 28-11 margin in the first quarter and doubled up the Raiders, 48-24, in the third and fourth quarters combined en route to posting the team's eighth win by 25 or more points this winter.

STATS OF THE GAME:

The Monks shot 86.7% (26-30) from the free-throw line and held a whopping 28-2 advantage in points off turnovers in the lopsided victory.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Champagne was 10-10 from the FT line with four rebounds and three steals
  • McNamara – who registered her second career double-double in the win – added five steals
  • Junior guard Hannah Marks (Waldoboro, Maine) netted 15 points with four boards in 19 minutes
  • Junior forward Emily Benway (Rochester, N.H.) chipped in with 13 points, eight rebounds, and four steals in 16 minutes
  • Senior forward Brianne Maloney (South Portland, Maine) added seven points and four rebounds

LEADERS – RIVIER:

  • Junior guard Lizzy Meehan (Nashua, N.H.) came off the bench to score 16 points with five rebounds
  • Junior guard Kaylee Kacavas (Dracut, Mass.) registered 14 points, six rebounds, and two assists
  • Junior forward Megan Hamel (Colebrook, N.H.) contributed nine points and seven boards

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the triumph, St. Joe's improves to 14-5 in the history of the series with Rivier University.
