STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (6-1, 1-0 GNAC) cruised past Albertus Magnus College (0-6, 0-1 GNAC), 75-50, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's basketball contest at the Harold Alfond Center on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks held a 14-8 lead after the first quarter and increased the advantage to 29-19 with 2:33 left in the second stanza before notching an 11-4 run to close out the half with a 40-23 cushion.

The hosts picked up where they left off in the third quarter and built a game-high 29-point lead after senior guard Cassandra Stapelfeld (Brookline, N.H.) drained a three-pointer with 51 seconds remaining in the penultimate period.

The Falcons took advantage of the Monks' lack of ball security in the fourth quarter and parlayed seven SJC turnovers into a 16-12 final frame advantage, but would get no closer to the lead than 19 points after being held off the board for the final 4:17 of the contest.

STATS OF THE GAME:

The Monks shot 44.0% (11-25) from three-point distance and held the Falcons to a 15% (3-20) effort from downtown...St. Joe's held a 58-31 advantage in rebounds which led to a 17-9 edge in second-chance points...The Monks win despite committing 19 turnovers off which the Falcons netted 16 points.

LEADERS - SAINT JOSEPH'S:

• Stapelfeld led four Monks in double-digits with 17 points and added five rebounds and four assists
• Junior forward Jayne Howe (Pembroke, Mass.) notched a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds and was 7-for-12 from the field
• Senior guard Grace Philippon (Glenburn, Maine) was 4-for-5 from the field, 2-for-3 from downtown, and 5-for-6 from the FT line with 15 points and eight boards
• Senior forward Kaleigh Walsh (Windham, N.H.) just missed a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds
• Sophomore guard Hannah Talon (Windham, Maine) came off the bench to score six points with four assists and two caroms
• Sophomore Angelica Hurley (Groverland, Mass.) chipped in with five points and 10 rebounds

LEADERS - ALBERTUS MAGNUS:

• Sophomore guard Caitlyn Scott (White Plains, N.Y.) tallied 16 points, four rebounds, three steals, and two assists
• Senior guard Katherine Raposo (Warwick, R.I.) scored 13 points with six caroms, four steals, and a pair of assists
• Freshman Jakara Murray-Leach (Norwalk, Conn.) added nine points and three rebounds

With the victory, Saint Joseph's improves to 17-0 all-time versus Albertus Magnus College.
