Monks Cruise Past Chargers, 85-36

Box Score

NEW LONDON, N.H. – After going nearly two weeks without playing a game, Saint Joseph's College (13-3, 7-1 GNAC) returned to form by defeating Colby-Sawyer College (1-12, 1-6 GNAC), 85-36, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's basketball contest on Monday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Due to inclement weather and COVID complications, the Monks entered tonight's game having not played since posting a 76-46 victory over Anna Maria College on January 18th.

Off to a sluggish start, St. Joe's trailed Colby-Sawyer by a 12-11 margin with 4:53 left in the first quarter but managed to shake off the rust with 14 unanswered points and headed into the second stanza leading 25-12.

In the second quarter, the Monks shot a blistering 75% (9-12) from the floor and outscored the Chargers, 21-11, en route to holding a 46-23 cushion going into intermission. Colby-Sawyer shot just 26.7% (4-15) from the field in the second period.

The shooting woes continued for the Chargers, who made 3-of-4 three-point shots in the first frame but proceeded to miss all 20 of their downtown attempts over the final three quarters.

Leading 64-33 through three periods, the Monks put the game completely out of reach by shooting 63.7% (7-11) overall and outscoring the Chargers, 21-3, in the final frame. Colby-Sawyer was 1-for-11 from the field in the closing stanza.
