Monks Topple Beavers, 88-48

FARMINGTON, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (3-2) cruised past UMaine-Farmington (1-4), 88-48, in a non-conference women's basketball contest on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The teams swapped the lead four times in the first quarter as the Beavers held a 13-11 lead after Grace Dwyer made a layup with 4:25 left in the opening frame. Ignited by a Logan Brown (Brunswick, Maine) three-pointer, the Monks closed out the quarter with a 10-3 run to claim the lead for good.

Saint Joseph's put the game away with a dominant second quarter as the Monks outscored the Beavers by a 31-13 margin to stake a 52-29 advantage going into intermission. Junior guard Hannah Talon (Windham, Maine) netted 16 of her game-high 22 points during the second stanza.

St. Joe's proceeded to lead by at least 20 points for the remainder of the contest and held a game-high 40-point cushion when freshman Anelise Maccoux (Mukwonago, Wisc.) hit a jump shot with 21 seconds left to account for the 88-48 final score.

STATS OF THE GAME:

The Monks shot 47.1% (32-68) from the floor while UMaine-Farmington posted a 31.1% (14-45) effort from the field…St. Joe's also held the lead in second chance points (19-0) and points in the paint (30-12) in the victory.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Talon was 7-for-9 from the floor, including 3-for-4 from three-point land, and 5-for-5 from the FT line totaling 22 points with four rebounds, four assists, and two steals
  • Junior guard Hailey Anderson (Beverly, Mass.) netted 14 points with two boards
  • Brown came off the bench to score 13 points off a 3-for-4 three-point shooting effort
  • Freshman guard Elisabeth Stapelfeld (Brookline, N.H.) tallied 10 points, eight rebounds, and five assists
  • Junior guard Nina Howe (York, Maine) added 10 points, five rebounds, and four assists

LEADERS – UMAINE-FARMINGTON:

  • Dwyer paced the Beavers with 18 points and four assists
  • Jaycie Stevens added 11 points, three assists, three steals, and a pair of caroms

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the victory Saint Joseph's improves to 44-27 all-time versus UMaine-Farmington and has now defeated the Beavers in 12-consecutive meetings dating back to the 2010-11 campaign.
