STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (13-3, 8-0 GNAC) rolled past Johnson & Wales University (7-10, 4-6 GNAC), 76-44, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's basketball contest at the Harold Alfond Center on Saturday afternoon.

With the victory, the Monks extend their winning streak to nine games.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The game was close early, but St. Joe's posted a sizeable run spanning seven minutes in the first and second quarters combined to claim a double-digit lead that would not be relinquished. Leading 11-9 with 4:51 left in the first frame, the hosts recorded a 15-1 surge to extend their advantage to 26-10 with 7:29 before the break. Junior guard Angelica Hurley (Groveland, Mass.) netted six points during the SJC outbreak.

After doubling up the Wildcats, 38-19, in the first half, the Monks put the game well out of reach with a 20-5 run, which was capped by an Elisabeth Stapelfeld (Brookline, N.H.) layup and the Royal Blue on top, 61-29, with 9:18 remaining.

Saint Joseph's proceeded to claim a game-high 33-point lead (66-33) after sophomore Mackenzie Currie (Merrimac, Mass.) made a layup with 6:25 left in the fourth quarter.

STATS OF THE GAME:

The Monks shot 41.4% (29-70) from the floor while the Wildcats posted a 29.6% (16-54) effort from the field…St. Joe's also netted 14 points on 18 JWU turnovers and held a 26-12 lead in points in the paint in the victory.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

• Hurley led the Monks with 13 points and pulled down three boards with a pair of assists
• Freshman Logan Brown (Brunswick, Maine) came off the bench to score 11 points in 17 minutes
• Senior forward Jayne Howe (Pembroke, Mass.) scored 10 points with two rebounds
• Junior guard Hailey Anderson (Beverly, Mass.) added 10 points and two caroms
• Junior guard Nina Howe (York, Maine) produced five points, six rebounds, five assists, and two steals
• Stapelfeld contributed with six points, seven boards, two assists, and a pair of steals

LEADERS – JOHNSON & WALES:

• Graduate guard Shaina Springer (Bay Shore, N.Y.) led all scorers with 14 points and added four steals and three assists
• Senior guard Jennell Martin (Springfield, Mass.) came off the bench to score nine points and pull down a pair of rebounds
• Freshman center Mikayla Caruso (Newton, N.J.) chipped in with six points, seven rebounds, and five blocked shots

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the triumph, Saint Joseph's improves to 16-6 all-time versus Johnson & Wales University and has now defeated the Wildcats in 10-consecutive meetings dating back to the 2015-16 campaign.
