Monks Kick Off New Year with GNAC Victory

STANDISH,  Maine – Saint Joseph's College (8-3, 3-0 GNAC) cruised past Anna Maria College (2-6, 0-2 GNAC), 83-52, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's basketball contest at the Harold Alfond Center on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Having not played since December 10th, the Monks showed little rust and jumped out to a 15-2 lead in the first 3:18 of play. After a three-minute spell during which neither team made a field goal, St. Joe's closed out the first quarter on a 14-4 run with a Hannah Talon (Windham, Maine) trifecta as the hosts capped the opening frame with a 29-9 advantage.

Saint Joseph's proceeded to claim a game-high 37-point cushion when sophomore Hanna Webster (Alvin, Texas) hit a free throw with 6:10 left in the fourth quarter.

STATS OF THE GAME:

The Monks scored 27 points off 20 Anna Maria turnovers and shot 47.1% (32-68) from the floor…The AMCATS netted 11 points off 13 SJC turnovers and shot just 31.6% (18-57) from the field.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Junior guard Hailey Anderson (Beverly, Mass.) came off the bench to net a game-high 19 points in just 17 minutes
  • Freshman guard Elisabeth Stapelfeld (Brookline, N.H.) tallied 12 points, four assists, three rebounds, and a pair of steals
  • Talon added 12 points off 5-for-6 shooting and pulled down a pair of boards
  • Junior guard Angelica Hurley (Groveland, Mass.) notched an all-around performance with seven points, eight rebounds, six assists and four steals
  • Freshman guard Lindsay Fiorillo (Scarborough, Maine) contributed seven points and three boards

LEADERS – ANNA MARIA:

  • Sophomore Marinique Reddin (Tampa, Fla.) notched a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds and added a pair of blocked shots
  • Junior Chloe Giordano (Goffstown, N.H.) added nine points, four rebounds, and a pair of steals
  • Freshman Arianna Saladini (Fitchburg, Mass.) came off the bench to net nine points with three rebounds, three assists, and two steals

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the victory Saint Joseph's improves to 14-0 in the history of the series with Anna Maria College.
