NASHUA, N.H. – Junior Hannah Talon (Windham, Maine) and freshman Elisabeth Stapelfeld (Brookline, N.H.) netted 20 points apiece to help Saint Joseph's College (14-4, 9-1 GNAC) topple Rivier University (10-11, 7-6 GNAC), 84-53, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's basketball contest on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks opened the game with 11 unanswered points in the first four minutes and held a 22-11 cushion heading into the second stanza. St. Joe's maintained a double-digit advantage for the entire game, including a 43-28 margin at intermission.

Saint Joseph's grabbed a game-high 31-point lead when junior guard Hailey Anderson (Beverly, Mass.) hit a three-pointer to account for the 84-53 final score with 1:11 remaining.

STATS OF THE GAME:

The Monks posted a season-high 54.5% (30-55) field goal shooting percentage while the Raiders shot 34.0% (18-53) from the field…SJC also shot 47.4% (9-19) from three-point distance – Rivier countered with an 18.2% (4-22) rate from downtown.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Talon made 8-of-10 shots from the field and scored 20 points with two rebounds, two steals, and a pair of assists
  • Stapelfeld scored a career-high 20 points on 7-for-10 shooting with three boards
  • Junior guard Angelica Hurley (Groveland, Mass.) added 15 points and four caroms
  • Anderson netted 11 points with six rebounds and three assists and was perfect from the floor (3-3) and the FT line (2-2)
  • Junior guard Nina Howe (York, Maine) chipped in with eight points, five assists, five steals, and four rebounds
  • Senior forward Jayne Howe (Pembroke, Mass.) contributed with six points, eight boards, four assists, and two blocked shots

LEADERS – RIVIER:

  • Lyric Grumblatt scored 19 points with four steals and three rebounds
  • Hannah Muchemore added nine points, four assists, and four steals
  • Alexa Dufries produced eight points with two boards and a pair of assists

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the victory Saint Joseph's improves to 21-5 all-time versus Rivier University and has now defeated the Raiders in nine-consecutive meetings dating back to the 2016-17 campaign.
