STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (3-2) toppled UMaine-Farmington (2-5), 84-33, in a non-conference women's basketball contest on Mike McDevitt Court at the Harold Alfond Center on Tuesday evening. The contest was the Monks' 2023-24 home-opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks put the game away early by shooting 68.8% (11-16) from the floor in the first quarter en route to building a 28-9 lead. St. Joe's opened the second stanza on a 13-3 run and headed into intermission with a 49-20 advantage.

Both teams fared poorly from the field in the third quarter with a composite 21.9% (7-32) clip in the penultimate period. In the fourth frame, the Beavers mustered only four points on a 2-for-8 shooting effort while committing eight turnovers as the Monks netted 20 while going 3-for-4 from downtown to claim the lopsided victory.

STATS OF THE GAME:

The Monks found their shooting stroke with a 48.4% (30-62) clip from the floor – the Beavers countered with a 20.5% (9-44) rate, including a 1-for-19 (5.3%) effort from beyond the arc…St. Joe's also scored 27 points off 19 turnovers and held a 40-14 lead in points in the paint.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Sophomore forward Grace Ramsdell (Wells, Maine) led all players with 19 points and pulled down a pair of rebounds
  • Senior guard Angelica Hurley (Groveland, Mass.) netted 18 points with five rebounds, two assists, and a pair of steals
  • Sophomore guard Logan Brown (Brunswick, Maine) came off the bench to score 10 points and grab five rebounds
  • Sophomore guard Elisabeth Stapelfeld (Brookline, N.H.) scored six points with five caroms and two assists
  • Junior forward Mackenzie Currie (Merrimac, Mass.) added six points
  • Sophomores Lindsay Fiorillo (Scarborough, Maine) and Madison Lebel (Hermon, Maine) and freshman Abby Dube (Groveland, Mass.) scored five points apiece

LEADERS – UMAINE-FARMINGTON:

  • Junior forward Sarah Poli (Benton, Maine) tallied eight points and five rebounds
  • Junior forward Jalyn Stacey (West Baldwin, Maine) came off the bench to score seven points
  • Freshman guard Jessica Dow (Saco, Maine) added six points and five rebounds

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the victory Saint Joseph's improves to 45-27 all-time versus UMaine-Farmington and has now defeated the Beavers in 13-consecutive meetings.
