Monks Cruise Past Pride, 81-49

WESTON, Mass. – Saint Joseph's College (6-3) improved to 2-0 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play with a convincing 81-49 victory over Regis College (2-8, 1-1 GNAC) in women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The conference rivals swapped the lead five times in the early going, but the Monks secured the advantage for good – as it played out - when they capped the first quarter riding an 11-5 run, which resulted in an 18-11 cushion for the visitors.

Saint Joseph's put the game away with a dominant second stanza, during which the Royal Blue shot 66.7% (8-12) en route to outscoring the Pride by a 24-10 margin. Sophomore forward Grace Ramsdell (Wells, Maine) netted nine points and freshman guard Maddie Russell (Oakfield, Maine) was 2-for-2 from downtown with six points to help the visitors head into halftime with a 42-21 lead.

St. Joe's went on to claim a game-high 34-point (79-45) lead when Russell hit a three-pointer with 1:40 left in the contest.

STATS OF THE GAME:

Saint Joseph's shot a season-high 48.3% (29-60) from the floor with a 44.0% (11-25) mark from three-point distance in the victory…Regis countered by shooting 31.0% (18-58) from the field and 18.2% (2-11) from beyond the arc.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Ramsdell notched her third double-double of the season with 20 points and 11 rebounds
  • Senior guard Nina Howe (York, Maine) scored 14 points with eight assists
  • Sophomore guard Elisabeth Stapelfeld (Brookline, N.H.) was 5-for-5 from the floor with 14 points, six rebounds, four steals, and a pair of assists
  • Russell came off the bench to net 14 points off a 4-for-5 three-point shooting effort

LEADERS – REGIS:

  • Madi Zancan led the Pride with 17 points and added eight boards, two assists, two steals, and a pair of blocks
  • Courtney Doherty chipped in with 14 points, three rebounds, three assists, and two steals

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the victory Saint Joseph's improves to 8-1 all-time versus Regis College and has now defeated the Pride in eight-consecutive meetings dating back to the 2016-17 season.

Saint Joseph's will host Maine Maritime Academy on Saturday, December 16th in a non-conference tilt set to start at 1:00 PM.
