Monks Race Past Chargers, 75-31

NEW LONDON, N.H. – Saint Joseph's College (17-4, 12-1 GNAC) toppled Colby-Sawyer College (8-13, 6-7 GNAC), 75-31, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's basketball contest on Monday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks held a 12-4 lead after junior guard Hailey Anderson (Beverly, Mass.) hit a three-pointer at the 6:29 mark of the first quarter and carried a 24-8 advantage into the second stanza after holding the Chargers to a 3-for-13 effort from the floor in the opening frame.

In the second period, St. Joe's extended the lead to 44-13 after making 5-of-8 shots from downtown while netting 13 points off 11 Colby-Sawyer turnovers.

The Monks went on to claim a game-high 46-point (71-25) lead after freshman guard Logan Brown (Brunswick, Maine) made a layup at the 2:45 mark of the fourth quarter.

STATS OF THE GAME:

Saint Joseph's shot 46.4% (13-28) from three-point distance while Colby-Sawyer made just 1-of-16 attempts from beyond the arc on the evening…The Monks scored 23 points off 20 Charger turnovers while committing just seven turnovers in the victory.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Freshman guard Elisabeth Stapelfeld (Brookline, N.H.) led all scorers with 20 points after making 4-of-6 shots from deep with three rebounds, two assists, and a pair of steals
  • Junior guard Nina Howe (York, Maine) contributed 14 points, five boards, three assists, and two steals
  • Anderson chipped in with 11 points and eight caroms
  • Brown added eight points, five assists, and three rebounds
  • Senior forward Mikayla Van Zandt (Westbrook, Maine) came off the bench to score eight points and pull down five boards in 15 minutes

LEADERS – COLBY-SAWYER:

  • Elyza Mitchell tallied 10 points and eight rebounds
  • Marissa Holt added seven points, three assists, and a pair of boards

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the win Saint Joseph's improves to 9-1 all-time versus Colby-Sawyer College and has now defeated the Chargers in eight-consecutive meetings.
