STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (5-7, 2-1 GNAC) showed plenty of resilience but ultimately suffered a 3-2 (21-25, 25-16, 25-16, 15-25, 16-14) defeat at the hands of Lasell University (8-1, 1-0 GNAC) in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's volleyball match on Mike McDevitt Court at the Harold Alfond Center on Thursday night.

After opening the match with a 25-21 first-set triumph, the Monks endured a pair of 25-16 set losses but managed to force a deciding fifth set with a dominant 25-15 win in the fourth. St. Joe's posted a stellar .364 attack rate with 15 kills – including nine from Victoria Briones (El Paso, Texas) and Maggie Sylvester (Barrington, N.H.) combined – and only three errors in 33 attempts.

The fifth set featured three tie scores and a pair of lead changes, and the Lasers held a 14-9 lead before the Monks rattled off five unanswered points – including a pair of Kailyn Chamberlin (Gilmanton, N.H.) service aces – to extend play. Unfortunately for the Royal Blue, the late surge ended with an attack error and a service ace from Lasell sophomore Maddie Caro (Chula Vista, Calif.).
