Monks Collect Wins in GNAC Matchup Against NEC and Albertus Magnus

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Saint Joseph's College women's volleyball swept their Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tri-match on Saturday at Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, Connecticut, downing New England College in a five-set nail biter and Albertus Magnus in four sets.

Match 1 - Score:  SJC 3, New England College 2 (25-18, 10-25, 25-22, 24-26,15-12)
Match 2 - Score:  SJC 3, Albertus Magnus 1 (25-21, 23-25, 18-25, 25-14)

  • The Monks outpaced the Pilgrims in kills 53-46 with Victoria Briones wracking up 16 in the match. Hanna Webster added eight and Kylie Giakoumis followed closely behind with seven kills in the duel. 
  • Riley Greenely led the Monks in aces tallying three of the Monks' five. Greenley also added 17 assists in the matchup. 
  • The Monks edged out of Pilgrims in digs 106-105 with Tamya Johnson leading the way with 18. Victoria Briones and Jessica Christman also played solid defense with 17 and 16 digs each. 
  • Johnson also led the way with 18 assists and contributed a block. 
  • NEC Kristina Cardello posted 36 digs with a .933 reception percentage and Alexandra Seijas finished with 22 set assists. NEC Tatiana Sampson notched 11 kills in the match. 
SJC, ALBERTUS MAGNUS 1 (25-21, 23-25, 18-25, 25-14)     
  • The Monks topped the Falcons in kills (42-33), aces (15-11), and assists (41-30) on the day while the Falcons led in blocks (6-4) and digs (74-68).
  • Hanna Webster was strong offensively for the Monks leading the team in kills (8) and aces (6).
  • Victoria Briones led the defense with digs (16) and tallied three assists, six kills, three assists, and a block. 
  • Heather Darby added seven kills while Jessica Christman contributed three aces and eight digs. 
  • Tamya Johnson and Riley Greenely each posted double digit assists. 
  • Regan Noonan and Kylie Giakoumis both posted three blocks in the match.

  • The Monks are back on the court on Tuesday evening when they travel to Elms College for a 6pm match.
